This is something I have been meaning to do. Take cow fat, melt it down, and make soap out of it.
It will give me practice for the day when, if my wife dies before me, I’ll make soap out of her remains so i can always have her with me……
…….just kidding. I mess with my wife all the time with that. She does not give permission for such shinnangins
Getting the basics
First thing I had to do was find beef fat or Suet as its called. I called a local butcher, and they sold it for $1.49 a pound.
I went to the butcher and at first they wanted to give me pig suet. That would have given me lard. I have a big tub of lard [lol] in my supply closet. So I said no I need beef.
It just so happens they were cutting beef at the moment. I was able to grab a little over 2 pounds. They were even nice enough to run it through the grinder. It saved me a step
How to make it

All you need to render tallow is a crock pot, a strainer, some cheese cloth, and jars to put the tallow in
I started with putting all the suet in the crock pot and put it on low
Every 30 minutes or so, I would go and stir it. It does not look appealing

I should have grabbed a picture about the point I started straining the chunks off
After about 2.5 to 3 hours, i had enough melted suet to start moving into a jar

I used a metal strainer to pour the melted suet into a jar
After the first pour, i used some cheesecloth to do a second pour into a second jar

It removed all the tiny floaters i saw in the first pour.
Final Product

Not looking bad for my first run. It was still hot at this point. I plan to make a batch of soap out of it this weekend
